Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota is a private, Lasallian Catholic University with campuses for adult learners in Minneapolis and Rochester, MN, an undergraduate campus in Winona, MN, and many online programs. Our School of Graduate and Professional Programs (SGPP) offers bachelor’s completion and graduate programs for adult learners. Our business completion programs in the SGPP have been accredited by the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE). Learn more about what this accreditation means below.
Saint Mary’s Business Programs Are Now IACBE Accredited
The International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE) is the newest accrediting body for higher business education. It focuses on outcomes assessment and the quality of the educational process. IACBE believes academic quality and excellence in business education should be measured by the educational outcomes of an academic business unit relative to its mission rather than by narrow standards relating to academic resources. All the business college majors in the SGPP at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota are now IACBE accredited. They include:
- Bachelor of Science in Accounting
- Bachelor of Science in Business Administration
- Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management
These bachelor completion programs allow adult students to finish degrees they’ve already started. Previous credits can transfer and count toward these bachelor’s degrees.
What Does IACBE Accreditation Mean?
The IACBE provides accreditation to select business programs at higher education institutions that result in associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degrees. An accreditation from the IACBE is a way to let students, parents, and the business community know the academic business program complies with high principles of excellence and follows best practices in business education. There are many benefits of having a business program accredited by the IACBE, including:
- Receiving access to the IACBE Member Only Resource Library, which isn’t available to the public
- Sharing best practices in business education through conferences and workshops
- Providing external accountability for the quality of an institution’s business programs
The accreditation from the IACBE is more flexible and mission-driven than other accreditations given by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). The AACSB is the oldest accrediting body and focuses on research and academic rigor, while the ACBSP highlights teaching excellence and practical business education.
